To ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
Become recognized as the premier provider of hope, psychosocial support and education for everyone affected by cancer in the Los Angeles area.
Developed by Dr. Harold H. Benjamin, the Patient Active Model guides patients to partner with their physicians, rather than remain passive through treatment, thereby improving the patient’s quality of life and enhancing their chances of surviving.
CSCLA licensed mental health professionals are trained to facilitate groups to focus on the primary stressors of cancer, pinpointed by Dr. Benjamin: feelings of loss of control, unwanted aloneness, and loss of hope. By connecting with our community and participating in CSCLA programs, patients and families empower themselves to communicate with their medical team, gain clarity in decision-making, and develop tools to live in the present.
